The ultimate why?

Image
When we ask why anything happens, we usually look to either belief systems like religion or science to get an answer.  It is reasonable to say that science increasingly takes the edge here by offering more logical and implementable explanations.  After all, science is incredibly powerful at explaining how things work, predicting outcomes, and uncovering the mechanisms behind various phenomena. But there is a major boundary when you come down to the building blocks. Why science has unsurmountable boundaries? You can ask why for every explanation science offers and it will continue to give answers! But this nature of science means that it takes you to the most fundamental questions, and that's where it struggles. Science reaches a boundary when it comes to fundamental or existential questions such as- Why the universe exists at all? Why the laws of physics and maths are what they are? Where did the ingredients of creation like mass and energy come from; and why do they follow pr...

Why Doesn't God step in?

Image
Why do innocent and ethical people suffer? Why doesn't God step in to solve injustice in the world and bring peace? These are some important questions used as strong arguments by atheists, and the answer is indeed complex, and here's my personal take in the modern context: Our expectations From irreducible complexity and near death experiences to personal observations and the intelligent creativity behind the universe, there are many indications of a supreme force. One that we don't understand fully but often worship and look up to for guidance. And it sounds reasonable to expect that such an ultimate force would enforce justice and fair treatment of its creations. Flipping the perspective However, let's examine this premise. Is God really obliged to take interest in every life and ensure justice just because we stay ethical and perform some self-imposed rituals?  Also, isn't God already doing enough to support us? After all, we can argue that natural resources, jud...

The modern relevance of faith

Image
Is religous faith relevant in today's world of rationality, science and progress? Why do people still believe in God and systems of worship?  While some people proudly claim to be atheist, many maintain their belief in a divine, omnipresent and supernatural power that controls the universe, referred as God or divine human forms.  Aethists claim to be rational and hence have belief in things backed by logic and facts only, which is often obtained through scientific progress and rejecting unfounded ideologies.  Sounds plausible, but is it truly rational to reject the concepts behind faith just because it has no evidence or apparent logical backing yet?  Let's analyze the concept of faith in God logically and without bias- 1. Many unfounded and abstract beliefs like theory of relativity (which claims that time is variable) and dual nature of light; were actually proven to be true by the one who came up with the concept and believed in it till he/she found enough ...

The ideal Indian job

Getting a government job is often considered the ultimate achievement by the Indian public and for good reason. Government jobs ensure job security, exalted socio-economic status and influence, luxury, good work-life balance and mostly a limited work pressure. No wonder it is considered an ideal job with the ideal lifestyle.  Naturally, many people harbor aspirations of getting a government job, including students and even more so, their parents. While there is a huge competition in exams for government jobs, studying hard for these exams is totally worth it…as long as you do clear them after all the toil. The plausible appeal of government jobs often fades when you have a look at the success rates of the exams and interviews that you’ve to go through to get there. The vacancies are few and competition is titanic, as validated later on.     There are 3 types of responses to this prospect- 1. Believing in slogans like “Be positive and try your best”, “you may be lucky...

Just another night

It's a placid night in my colony and the streets are free of commotion. I'm about to drift into a slumber. But then, the canine residents of the colony decide to assert their dominance with prolonged howls. Yes I'm talking about the dogs in my colony... Dogs in India have the perfect life in many aspects. They get a sumptuous breakfast every morning from empathy driven people, and spend their day in blissful lethargy.  And even if they don't get food from humans, our street dogs have mastered the art of scavenging to the adeptness of a hyena. What's more? They have singing competitions with their friends every night...  But it's not all plain sailing! The lives of street dogs depend on the reflexes of vehicle owners, who often perform last moment stunts to save the dogs' lives. Moreover, their greatest peril comes from people who don't appreciate their vocal skills, especially at night! As the dog population rises, these people start devising cunning pla...
